On Sat 10 October Soft Machine performed at the Corn Exchange Cambridge as part of a celebration of the music of Syd Barrett. The event was sold out and featured various bands including the headliner Kula Shaker. A full psychedelic light show was brought in by ‘The Mad Alchemist’ all the way from San Francisco. Syd Barrett’s sister and family were behind the event and the event raised money for charity as it was world mental health day.
During the weekend there were also exhibitions of Syd Barrett’s painting and talks about him, his life and music. Soft Machine played a unique and special set for the event including tracks like ‘No Good Trying’ and ‘See Emily Play’. The Syd Barrett tribute album ‘Clowns and Jugglers’ was also released on 9 October and is now available.
